The ‘Historic Newark in Bloom’ team have made a great start to their partnership with CRT & TBA-Trentlink, by clearing Newark Town Lock of weeds and planting flowers. Well done to all of those volunteers from HNiB.
Planting new flowers in the tubs by the old lock keepers cottage.
We look forward to using these efforts of HNiB to spread the word and get other groups involved along the network from Nottingham to Naburn by adopting the locks and making the network colourful for all visitors.
We have engaged with bloom groups to take ownership of the locks along the network under our ‘Friends Of’ initiative. We welcome our inaugural group Newark who are taking ownership of Newark Town Lock and will be enaging with other groups along the network to bring more groups onboard.
Exciting plans are in place to enhance the riverscape through Newark — and businesses and volunteers are being called upon to help make it happen.

September 2024 with the help of CRT we have managed to secure a winter mooring for the ‘Leicester Trader’ the Newark Heritage Barge a museum deidcated to the history of life and work on the River Trent. We look forward to working with CRT to establish a permanent site for this valuable resource.
At the request of our partnership organisations we are now registered with the ICO for purposes of sharing data in respect of our incident reporting APP.
Organisation name: Trentlink
Reference: ZB698226
This is our new APP which you can download to your iphone or android it contains the following direct links;
a) The current colour status of the Tidal section of the Trent under our jurisdiction from Keadby to Cromwell.
b) Direct link to the CRT stoppages and notices map when planning your journey.
c) Member support tickets-any technical issues regards access to the site or technical support and advice regards your navigation plans.
d) BRIEF – Reporting form for any issues you come across between Keady to Nottingham i.e lock access or booking issues, debris, grounding, anti social behaviour all of these reports will be forwarded to the teams concerned.
e) Call for recovery/rescue – If all else fails and other boaters cannot assist you, this is a direct line to Newark Marina where the resident tug ‘Friar Tuck’ and an experienced crew will come to your aid.
Launched in August 2024 along with our partners we have launched a safe zone for mooring in the beautiful town of Newark on Trent a favourite amongst visiting boaters. Whilst incidents of anti-social behaviour are few and far between, specific safe areas covered with CCTV, improved lighting, increased Police Patrols and an incident reporting form are measures we are taking to ensure peace of mind.
What we would like to do is extend this scheme to all of the main towns and cities along the Trent.
We are pleased to announce that we have now signed a partnership agreement with the Canal & River Trust so that we can carry out necessary upgrades to the Navigation markers and trim vegetation etc along with our willing volunteers.
If you would like to help with our volunteers, it’s not onerous you can dip in and dip out when availability allows just contact:
